The film unveils the curtain behind one of the worlds most notorious gyms. I felt like it was too obvious to compose an aggressive sounding score for the film, I wanted to bring out the relationships between some of the characters in the gym and show how they cared, challenged, loved and hated each-other.Its very easy to get lost in the aggressive and hard nose exterior of Westside Barbell but when you dig beneath the surface this film was about a home grown tight knit group who changed the world of powerlifting and thats the sound I was looking for. The composition is led primarily by the guitar with a piano embellishment that makes for a nostalgic and romantic piece of music.
The style of music is much different from what we are used to hearing from the young composer, taking a much different approach from the synth based music that he is used to creating.
